A visit from a canine friend is a stress-reliever for students.

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, offers an unparalleled student experience. Students thrive because of the personalized support they receive. The library is at the heart of that campus experience.

One-on-one research assistance from library staff is available virtually around the clock. But—just as importantly—UT Libraries offers a steady stream of opportunities for students to explore library resources in fun ways and build connections with other students.

Over the past year, UT Libraries held multiple events—many in collaboration with campus partners—that promote student engagement, introduce university students to scholarly research, and ease the pressure of classwork and exams.

There are plenty of book-themed events—from book clubs to bookbinding workshops.

Students can demonstrate their language skills at the libraries’ annual Short Story Contest and apply their research skills at periodic Wikipedia Edit-a-thons.

Nationally celebrated library events such as Open Access Week, Media Literacy Week, and Love Data Week create opportunities to introduce students to key issues affecting academic libraries such as the impact of artificial intelligence and open access to publicly funded research.

Crafting workshops in the Medbery Makerspace and monthly game nights offer chances to relieve stress and make new friends.

During finals week (also known as the Big Orange Finish Line), UT Libraries and the Judith Anderson Herbert Writing Center co-host a Writing Blitz to help students finalize their term papers, and all three library branches present craftwork sessions and serve free snacks.
